Guilty of Not Recycling

Have you ever felt guilty about throwing your old batteries in the trash can?  I surely have.  My problem is, I don’t really know what else to do with them.  I know I’m supposed to recycle them, but I know that I can’t just throw them in with my regular household recycling of boxes and milk jugs and jars.  I also have heard that you can’t keep a bunch of old batteries in a cardboard box, for example, because there is a risk that they could catch on fire when stored like that.  What to do?  I recently read about a battery bin that solved the problem.  It’s a fireproof place to hold them until you are ready to recycle.
