Warm and Welcoming

I found my accommodation in Wellington City to be very warm and welcoming.  I also have to mention right up front that the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.  There was, as could be expected, somewhat of a delay with the service during breakfast time.  However, with the number of guests waiting to be served, the wait was very understandable.  The taxi was several minutes late arriving to pick me up to take me to the airport.  And, that was not the fault of the staff there.  They did everything that they came to not only calm me down, but get one there as soon as possible.

So, Brighton and Hove’s full female  short list of Parliamentary prospects generates some encouragement to a prospective future change of basis in the gender equalizer in the political power arena .

Being quoted in The Argus , Fawcett Society chief executive Ceri Goddard said: “If all the candidates are women that is cause for celebration but also concern that it has taken until 2009, whereas all-male elections are still the norm.

“The voters if Brighton can be pleased that whom ever they elect they will be a step closer to closing the gender gap in parliament where currently less than 20% of our MP’s are women – less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda.”

‘Less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda……… ‘ – personally that peculiar statement left me somewhat discomfited about the state of our political arena and interested as to the grounds for male domination above and beyond the onetime precedence that gentlemen should have it completely their own way – and its a whole Pandoras box of discourse  that is better left for some other place .

But my role here now is as – as always – to fly the flag for Brighton and Hove and manifest how progressive intending and politically sensible our town is, and having  a ratio of men to women in parliament  more typical of the population, is in my judgement, a stride in the true direction! brighton holiday apartment
